Maggy Chestnut is a true Lone Star State artisan whose line of Sister The Brand scarf designs gorgeously capture the spirit of Texas with every brushstroke and thread. Chestnut draws inspiration from the sprawling landscapes, vibrant culture, and undeniable charm of West Texas, where she was raised. Her scarves and accessories, crafted from the finest silks and textiles, tell a story—a story of wildflower-strewn hills, blazing sunsets, and the enduring elegance of the Texas woman. Our style chasing, cool hunting Lance Avery Morgan caught up with Maggy to learn about what is inspiring her most these days.

Each piece in her collection is a testament to her meticulous craftsmanship, featuring hand-painted motifs, intricate patterns, and a boldness that mirrors Texas itself. Whether it’s a silk scarf inspired by a Western motif, or a vibrant print echoing the sparkle of precious gems, her creations are wearable art, blending sophistication with a touch of whimsy.
We love that Maggy’s scarves have graced the necks of style-savvy women across the state and beyond, earning her a loyal following that includes socialites, creatives, and everyday fashion lovers alike. With her boundless creativity and deep connection to her roots, Maggy Chestnut proves that style is always a little brighter when wrapped in a touch of Lone Star magic.
Maggy Chestnut is the Lone Star State’s reigning queen of chic, effortlessly weaving Texas charm into her signature scarf designs. Her creations are as bold as a West Texas sunset and as intricate as a Hill Country wildflower bloom. With a background in fine arts and a passion for storytelling through textiles, her scarves are more than accessories—they’re wearable works of art. When she’s not sketching her next collection, you’ll find her studying for her MBA at SMU, treasure-hunting at local markets, or soaking in the beauty of her home state with Ranch Water in hand.
Her designs are a mainstay at upscale boutiques and trunk shows and can be found at The Garden Room Boutique, Austin (where we first discovered Maggy, thanks to proprieter Patty Haufpauier), Boon & Co., Round Top, Tucker Brown, Fort Worth, Lawrence’s Gift, Fort Worth, St. Michaels Women’s Exchange (Highland Park Village), Dallas, Kuhl Linscomb, Houston, Avant Garden, Amarillo, Meadow Boutique/Baker Tatum, San Antonio, The Waterford, San Angelo, Monkee’s of the Woodlands, Woodlands, and Pell 1990, Spring, Texas.
The best career advice I’ve received is…
Maggy Chesnut: My dad has always encouraged me to dream big…he always says, “Don’t aim low…you might hit!” Emphasizing the importance of following your dreams and not aiming too low because you might miss out on those seemingly out-of-reach dreams.
Three qualities that got me where I am today are…
Maggy Chesnut: My entrepreneurial spirit, self-motivation, and the tendency to always take the road less traveled. I am inspired by the unknown, unsolvable, and impossible.

Easiest career decision I ever made is…
Maggy Chesnut: Taking a leap of faith to leave a corporate job that I loved in the oil and gas industry to start a brand and follow an entrepreneurial dream I had which is now a reality. There were people around me who thought I was crazy, but I knew I needed to follow my heart.
Due to my creating fashion accessories, I have found that…
Maggy Chesnut: I have so many people rooting for me daily. Old friends, new friends, and all the friends in between. I have found an entirely new community, but so many people have also followed me in my transition from oil and gas to fashion.
I have grown a love for silk products and aim for people to incorporate them into everyday life. Typically, people are intimidated by silk scarves due to their luxurious nature and because silk is so delicate.
What first attracted me to designing scarves was…
Maggy Chesnut: First and foremost, my sister Lizzy Chesnut Bentley of City Boots (hence the name of the brand)––I have watched her build a brand of her own for the last ten years, and at one point during a holiday season, she launched a limited edition of beautiful scarves.
Scarves are the perfect gift for your sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, friend and even yourself. They are timeless, meaningful, and inspiring. I love referencing all my pieces as the perfect 30-second accessory. Within 30 seconds you can elevate any outfit.

Being a Texas designer means that I…
Maggy Chesnut: Display a lot my Texas roots in my products. I am so proud to be a Texan and since I had the privilege of growing up in West Texas, my natural style leans into western style.
Color in my designs is important because it…
Maggy Chesnut: Inspires. Energizes. And gives people the opportunity to be bold.
How I made my first dollar…
Maggy Chesnut: Definitely from my mom purchasing a “scarf” while they were still in production. Outside of family…one day, toward the end of the process, I got an email that I had sold a scarf, and I literally panicked. I had not officially launched my website yet, but a friend of mine knew I was working on it. She had been checking in occasionally on her own to see if I had progressed the website far enough along for her to buy something. It was one of the most memorable moments in starting my business. I cried tears of excitement.

First music I bought was…
Maggy Chesnut: Taylor Swift’s first album. My dad heard about her in the early 2000s and knew we would love her music. Of course, it was actually him buying her music for us. We must have listened to that CD thousands of times.
Last thing I binge/marathon watched…
Maggy Chesnut: Landman. I don’t watch TV often, but I appreciate and enjoy the way Taylor Sheridan captures the Western way of life.

If I lived in a foreign city it would be…
Maggy Chesnut: Either Tokyo or Singapore. For both of those places, I love the culture, food, and people.
What everyone should try in their lifetime is…
Maggy Chesnut: Volunteering at an organization where you work alongside individuals with intellectual disabilities. I worked for a non-profit in Houston, Texas, called Sandal Gap Studio for a short period while I was starting my business. I had the opportunity to experience the beauty of down syndrome and autism daily. That experience changed my life for the better. I hope everyone finds the opportunity to do the same.

Book that left a lasting impression on me…
Maggy Chesnut: The Big Rich by Bryan Burrough. I grew up around oil and gas and worked briefly in the industry, so I enjoyed learning more about the history of Texas oil and the “Big Four” oilmen who started it all.
On that note, my favorite fictional character is…
Maggy Chesnut: I do not have one favorite. I love so many of the characters in Yellowstone for all different reasons. That was another favorite show of mine.
My real-life hero has got to be…
Maggy Chesnut: My mom. Hands-down, without a doubt… Always & forever.
If I could compete in an Olympic sport, or create one, it would be…
Maggy Chesnut: I love to watch gymnastics and anything equestrian. This last year I was super fascinated by the rock-climbing event too.

If I weren’t doing what I do I would (be a…)…
Maggy Chesnut: I am currently living the life I always dreamed. Getting to go back to school to get an MBA while creating a business of my own. I am eternally grateful.
A celebrity I would prank phone call and what I would ask them is…
Maggy Chesnut: I don’t know who I would call these days, but this reminds me of a time I was in 5th grade, and a friend of mine and I called one of our teachers as a prank to tell her there was a huge sale at a local store. We were sent to the principal’s office the next day at school. She knew it was us because we told her at the end of the call. Lesson learned to keep the prank call a prank for the entirety of the call.
My hidden talent that most people might not guess is…
Maggy Chesnut: I can sew. Not very well, but enough to get by. I have a sewing machine, and I created my first “Lasso” on my own sewing machine to get the exact measurements I wanted before sending it to my manufacturer in Italy.

If I had a superpower, I’d want it to be…
Maggy Chesnut: The ability to pause time…it always feels like I need and want more of it. Especially when I am with my niece and nephew.
A simple way to get people to laugh is easy. Just…

Maggy Chesnut: Spend a lifetime developing a sense of dry humor so you can land the perfect one-liner and not even realize it.
A phrase I might overuse would be…
Maggy Chesnut: Howdy! Sometimes I have to remind myself not every email needs to open with a Howdy!
My motto? Easy. It is…
Maggy Chesnut: You can never have enough scarves!
Favorite scent these days is:
Maggy Chesnut: A very specific answer: Santal 33 from Le Labo is amazing…I have been loving anything rose-scented recently.
My style icon who wears/wore scarves beautifully is/was…

Maggy Chesnut: So many people have worn scarves well and continue to wear them well and inspire me. Famous women, women I have looked up to, people my age and even younger generations have been inspiring me recently. I am constantly inspired by Claudya Moreira and her ability to curate varying, unique looks with scarves and document them for us all to see. This last year I have had many male customers as well. Their ability to curate their own style utilizing silk scarves absolutely blows me away. I am so lucky to have the customers I do who inspire me to continue to create.
My personal style signifier is…
Maggy Chesnut: Denim…pink…camo… and, of course, scarves and cowboy boots. More recently I have made my ring from Clint Orms out of San Antonio a daily staple on my pointer finger. It has an ‘M’ on it and all the women in my family have matching ones. It doubles as a bolo when needed and I am never without it now.

The last meal that truly impressed me was…
Maggy Chesnut: Truth BBQ in Houston never disappoints!! I am equally impressed with every visit as I was after my first time eating there.
In my fridge, you will always find…
Maggy Chesnut: Sparkling water, eye masks, and Lone River Ranch Water seltzer, specifically the spicy one.

My perfect day would end…
Maggy Chesnut: Out in the country on a warm day, watching fireflies and by a campfire with family and close friends.
On my tombstone, it might say…Maggy Chesnut: Buried in denim, scarves and boots surrounded by her family.
