It’s one of the most anticipated exhibitions to arrive in Lubbock this season. Why? Because Downton Abbey redefined period television, and its iconic costumes will be on display at the Museum at Texas Tech University beginning January 31st in Dressing the Abbey.

Opportunity To See The Unique Costumes
Since its debut in 2011, Downton Abbey has captivated audiences worldwide, transforming the historical drama into a global phenomenon. Set in the evolving social landscape of early 20th-century Britain, the series brought the grandeur of the Edwardian era vividly to life, blending aristocratic tradition with modern storytelling. Essential to its lasting appeal is Downton Abbey’s attention to detail, seen in everything from its intricately designed sets to its elegant costumes. Now, the series’ very own Dressing the Abbey exhibit gives fans and design enthusiasts alike the opportunity to see the unique costumes that brought the world of Downton Abbey to life.

Visitors to Dressing the Abbey can expect to experience a collection of 35 original costumes that demonstrate the evolution of early 20th-century fashion and embody the epitome of elegance. Created by Academy Award-winning costumier Cosprop Ltd., the exhibit displays exquisitely crafted garments from formal gowns adorned with delicate lace, embroidery, and beading to the iconic uniforms worn by the household staff. Among the highlights are costumes worn by beloved characters, including Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham, Lady Cora Crawley, and Martha Levinson. Additionally, the “downstairs” uniforms of Mr. Carson, Mrs. Patmore, Daisy, and Anna will be recognized by visitors.

Join For A Seated Dinner
In addition to Dressing the Abbey, The Abbey Revealed: Dinner and Conversation with Laura Carmichael and Allen Leech offers an extension to the exhibit on February 26th, 2026 at the Museum at Texas Tech Sculpture Court. Guests will enjoy a seated dinner with catering from Salt by Angie, followed by an intimate conversation with Downton Abbey actors Laura Carmichael (Edith Pelham) and Allen Leech (Tom Branson). Inspired by Downton Abbey’s timeless sophistication, the evening invites attendees to step beyond the gallery and engage directly with two of the show’s most beloved characters. Tickets are available today on the Museum at Texas Tech University website.

Open from January 31st to April 25th, 2026, Dressing the Abbey is a must-see exhibition. Whether you are a devoted fan of the show, a fashion or history enthusiast, or simply attracted to exceptional design, come step inside the world of one of television’s most celebrated historical dramas.

Added to my list, I am going to be driving up to Santa Fe and it Lubbock is a good place to stop and stretch your legs.
