The 2024 Kia Sorento X-Pro is the latest addition to the company’s lineup of off-road-inspired models, joining the Telluride X-Pro and the Sportage X-Pro. Although the X-Pro lineup appears impressive, some off-road enthusiasts have expressed doubts about its actual off-road capability. The Sorento is designed for individuals who require a third row, which is unavailable in the smaller Sportage, but find the Telluride too large. The availability of hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains in the new Sorento provides buyers with options. Those seeking more power can opt for the turbocharged 2.5-liter I-4 gasoline engine producing 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque, which is featured in the Sorento X-Pro.
Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The steering response is excellent, even with the all-terrain tires, it still feels very poised and stable. The brakes are good but not sporty, making it comfortable to drive, just be ready for a lot of pedal travel when you stand on the brakes.
The 2024 Kia Sorento X-Pro comes with a specialized wheel and tire package designed for off-road use. It features 17-inch aluminum alloy rims and BF Goodrich Trail Terrain tires, sized at 235/65, which offer excellent traction. These all-terrain tires are inspired by BF Goodrich’s renowned K02 off-road tires and are designed to provide comfort on the road. With 8.2 inches of ground clearance, the X-Pro is well-prepared to take on various off-road challenges.
The X-Pro package truly shines when it comes to towing. Its enhanced cooling system allows for a maximum towing capacity of 4,500 pounds, surpassing any other Sorento by 1,000 pounds. If you’re planning to tow a boat or camper, the X-Pro package is the ideal choice for your Sorento.
The 2024 Sorento features a luxurious cabin with a more upscale feel compared to other vehicles in its class. New features include redesigned air vents, a touch-sensitive HVAC control panel, and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen running on Kia’s new ccNC (Connected Car Navigation Cockpit) user interface. This system, initially introduced in the all-electric Kia EV6 and the EV9 three-row electric SUV, offers enhanced processing power, a revamped menu structure, and improved responsiveness. It also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and over-the-air updates. Kia has ensured there are ample charging points for everyone’s devices, making the infotainment system intuitive and easy to use.
The first two rows of the interior offer ample space and comfort, while the third row may feel a bit cramped for larger individuals. When the third row is in use, cargo space is limited, making it suitable for local errands but less ideal for long road trips unless you invest in a roof box.
