Houston’s culinary scene has plenty to say, and recently, it was said beautifully: one bite, sip, and conversation at a time. The inaugural Memorial Food + Wine, presented by the MetroNational Foundation, brought together an impressive roster of culinary talent from Houston, San Antonio, and Austin for an invitation-only evening celebrating food, wine, hospitality, and the community that makes Memorial such a distinctive part of Houston
With 200 guests in attendance, the event transformed the venue into a sophisticated culinary gathering filled with tasting stations, creative pairings, thoughtfully crafted cocktails and wines, and plenty of opportunities to meet the chefs behind the dishes.
President and Executive Director of the MetroNational Foundation Stacy Johnson and Chief Executive Officer of MetroNational Jason Johnson hosted the evening, with co-hosts Katie and Ben Eisterhold, Carolyn and Perry Hicks, Hanna and Brad MacDougall, and Lisa and Greg Nelson.
But this was far more than a tasting event. Inspired by Stacy and Jason Johnson’s shared love of food and travel, Memorial Food + Wine was designed around a simple but compelling idea: bring together people who love to eat, explore and connect… and give that gathering a purpose beyond the plate.
A Culinary Cast Of Stars

The evening’s culinary lineup read like a who’s who of the region’s restaurant scene.
Featured chefs included Christina Au of Blacksmith, Aaron Bludorn of Bludorn, Bryan Caswell of Latuli, Kevin Fink of Pullman Market, Claudia Franco of Hudson House, Diego Galicia of Mixtli, Levi Goode of Credence & Side Bar, Suu Khin of Burmalicious by Suu, Patrick Pham of Handies Douzo Spring Branch, and Michael Sambrooks of The Pit Room.
Together, they offered guests a delicious cross-section of the region’s culinary personality, with interactive stations that encouraged guests not merely to sample the food, but to engage with the people and stories behind it.
That sense of discovery was central to the evening. Memorial residents, local tastemakers and community leaders moved through the event sampling distinctive dishes and creative pairings while connecting with the chefs themselves. The result was part culinary showcase, part social gathering… and very much a celebration of Houston’s increasingly dynamic food culture.
The Look: Understated, Warm & Welcoming

Visually, the evening took a decidedly relaxed approach to elegance.
The décor and ambiance were described as reminiscent of Magnolia Journal, combining understated sophistication with a warm, welcoming sensibility.
Rather than creating an overly formal culinary spectacle, the setting encouraged guests to linger, taste, converse, and connect. The aesthetic complemented the evening’s larger philosophy: luxury need not be fussy to feel special. In fact, the atmosphere helped make the chefs and their creations the stars.
A Night With A Purpose

Behind the food and conviviality was the MetroNational Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting organizations, charities and schools throughout Memorial, Spring Branch and West Houston. Proceeds from ticket sales benefited the Foundation and its work strengthening families, serving children, expanding access and supporting community initiatives.
For Stacy Johnson, that connection between celebration and service was at the heart of the evening. “The inaugural Memorial Food & Wine was a celebration of culinary talent, gracious hospitality and community,” Johnson said. “We are deeply grateful to the chefs, partners and guests who made the evening possible. Their generosity will help support the Foundation’s work throughout Memorial, Spring Branch and West Houston.”
The Foundation’s work reflects MetroNational’s broader purpose of “Creating Better Stories. Building Better Lives.” Through donations, community service projects, charitable drives and partnerships, the organization seeks to create meaningful, lasting impact in the communities MetroNational has called home for more than 70 years.

Adding to the evening’s social sparkle was a gathering of prominent Houston leaders from real estate, brokerage, energy and wealth management, along with familiar faces from the Memorial community. Among those attending were Carrie and John-Hays Compton, Tyler and Abby Garrett, Beth Harp, Brad Morgan, Jennifer and Joe Savery, Colby Mueck, Ciro Lampasas, Lindsay Davis and Joseph Cohen, Jolie and Charles Campbell, and Peter and Aubrey Selber.
The mix of culinary talent, community leaders and local tastemakers reinforced what the evening was ultimately about: bringing people together.
More Than A Meal
For its first edition, Memorial Food + Wine made a strong statement about both Houston’s culinary evolution and the power of gathering around a good cause.
The evening offered a snapshot of a food community that is increasingly diverse, ambitious and collaborative…and a neighborhood eager to celebrate it.
With acclaimed chefs, curious diners, an inviting setting and philanthropy woven into the experience, the inaugural Memorial Food + Wine proved that a great meal can be about much more than what is on the plate.
Sometimes, the most memorable ingredient is community.
