THE SCENE: The Revaire in Houston was the setting for an afternoon of awareness, advocacy, and fundraising. A crowd featuring approximately 200 of Space City’s most notable community leaders, elected officials, sociables, and philanthropists turned out for the 4th Annual New Beginnings luncheon. Benefiting AVDA, the afternoon featured an emotional program that honored individuals who have served as prominent vocal advocates for victims of domestic violence.

THE VIBE: The cocktail-attired crowd fully embraced the “Morning Garden Party”-themed event. In the crowd, one could spot an elegant mix of bold colors, pastels, bold prints, and floral patterns. The array of fashions seamlessly blended, creating a beautiful tapestry that matched the vibrant energy of the guests.

Kicking off the afternoon was a lively cocktail reception. Here, guests posed for images to commemorate the afternoon, imbibed in themed cocktails inspired by AVDA’s mission, including “The Hope and Light”, and mingled with other patrons.

Many took the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for an array of luxury items and experiences, including a fashion show at TOOTSIES, tickets to Houston Texans and Houston Astros games, and meals at top Houston restaurants.

Guests then took to their seats for the luncheon and the main program. Preisler Productions created the stunning floral decor that beautifully reflected the new beginnings that every survivor of domestic violence deserves. Tessa Barrera served as mistress of ceremonies, keeping the afternoon’s festivities moving at a fun yet brisk pace. As guests dined on a lunch by A Fare Extraordinaire, they were treated to event and organization leaders thanking them for their support.

Capping off the luncheon was honoring two prominent Houstonians for their longtime support of AVDA. First was Rebecca Berend, MD, a former client of AVDA, who was awarded the Ambassador of Advocacy Award. The second was awarded to BJ Rottinghaus of Y’alloween, who received the Young Advocate Award for partnering with the organization over the last several years to ensure children impacted by domestic violence can experience Halloween.

THE NON-PROFIT: The 4th Annual New Beginnings luncheon, chaired by Nora Jarrad and Katie Tsuru, raised funds for AVDA. Since its founding in 1980, AVDA has provided free advocacy, safety planning, and legal counsel for over 100,000 survivors of domestic violence. Additionally, AVDA has provided group counseling for over 30,000 abusers focused on personal change to end the cycle of abuse.
