We love that Preservation Park Cities is presenting its annual Park Cities Historic Home Tour sponsored by Allie Beth Allman & Associates and D Home. Starting the week of May 1st, there is an opportunity to view the Historic Home Tour Video presentation, which gives an intimate look at four very special Park Cities residences:

4319 Versailles Avenue
4271 Bordeaux Avenue
Of course, the purpose of the annual Historic Home Tour is to showcase architecturally and historically significant homes of the Park Cities and illustrate how these homes have been restored or remodeled to serve the lifestyle needs of families today.
Here are some facts and how you can support…
• The Historic Home Tour, Distinguished Speaker Luncheon and the Park Cities Car Show are the organization’s only fundraisers each year. The proceeds are allocated to help further our mission to celebrate and promote the preservation of Park Cities architecture, history, aesthetics, and cultural traditions.
• The organization landmarks architecturally and historically significant homes in the Park Cities, some of which are on the Historic Home Tour.
• Members of the organization enjoy historic and preservation oriented educational programs.

This superb Italian Renaissance home was completed in 1930 by legendary architect Hal Thomson. The exquisite proportions and materials combined with the subtle detailing emphasize the importance of this dignified residence. In the 1980’s, the home was enlarged and the property was extended to the corner. Richard Drummond Davis supervised the addition in a sensitive way so that it blends flawlessly with the original home. From top to bottom this stunning Hal Thomson structure is an irreplaceable part of Highland Park history and has benefited from brilliant updates and appropriate landscaping. The community is fortunate to still have an Italian palazzo of such exquisite quality in its midst.

4145 Shenandoah
The Chapel home is situated on an iconic corner in University Park fondly known as the “Four Sisters”. All four homes at this intersection were built by Charles Dilbeck. Active from 1932-1969, Dilbeck is the author of between 400-600 Dallas residences and was the most admired architect of his era. Hallmarks of his idiosyncratic creations include asymmetrical and complex floor plans infused with the rough-hewn character of a Norman cottage. Shenandoah represents a fine tuned creation from his French eclectic repertoire.
As vigilant stewards of their Dilbeck home, the Chapels have kept original details like strapping hinges, unusual stucco finishes, and vintage light fixtures. Any gaps that remained in honoring Dilbeck’s legacy have been lovingly filled in. The owners personally stripped the paint off the original cypress windows! What a journey the Chapels have been on to preserve this architectural jewel in such an authentic way.

4319 Versailles
In 1936 noteworthy architect James Duff built the home at 4319 Versailles in a modern yet classical way. Duff designed more than 90 homes in the Park Cities between 1936 & 1940; for his work he received the “Good Housekeeping” magazine “Shield of Approval”. Versailles is a Georgian style red brick home with quintessential exterior elements.
A tremendous amount of thought and planning preceded the remodel of this home. The detail reflected in the paint treatments, hardware, fabric and floor coverings blends together with fine precision. This residence represents classic elegance with an unforgettable contemporary interior.
