At The Hilton Americas-Houston, 900 Of Houston’s Top Philanthropists Gathered For A Sophisticated “A Night In Black And White,” Benefiting Breakthrough T1D Greater Houston

THE SCENE: The Hilton Americas-Houston was the setting for an elegant, highly successful fundraising event that left an indelible mark on the Space City philanthropic scene. A sold-out crowd featuring 900 of the area’s most notable community leaders, children’s and medical advocates, sociables, and philanthropists turned out for the 2026 Promise Ball. Benefiting Breakthrough T1D of Greater Houston, the stunning, “A Night In Black and White” themed event delivered a night for the ages and an incredible fundraising endeavor for the organization.
THE VIBE: The black-tie crowd exquisitely offered a 21st-century Houston take on the iconic 1966 Truman Capote Party, which has been part of social lore for decades. The formal ensembles provided a chic, sophisticated environment that was equal parts elegant and fun.
VIPs began the night at a private Mahjong for a Cure Salon, where guests could play a game that has become part of the cultural zeitgeist. Revelers then headed to the Hilton-Americas Houston ballroom foyer for a lively cocktail hour. Against the backdrop of tunes courtesy of the Blue Monks Jazz Trio, guests sipped martinis, champagne, and other spirits of choice.
The doors to the Hilton-Americas ballroom then opened, and guests entered to find their seats for dinner and the main program. More than a few jaws dropped as The Events Company transformed the space into a sophisticated grandeur with a grand chandelier, feathered plumes in illuminated vases, a black-and-white geometric dance floor, and a stage that paid homage to the iconic red-carpeted steps of The Plaza Hotel, which were perfectly accented with tables featuring white florals and lamps.
Drew Doughtery served as emcee, charming and entertaining the crowd while moving the festivities at a fun, informative, and brisk pace throughout the night. While partygoers dined on their delectable, multi-course meals, they were treated to words from event and organization leaders thanking them for taking part in such a special evening.
Highlights of the program include recognizing Linda Brown with the Meredith and Fielding Cocke Visionary Award, as well as a series of special video tributes from Michael Strahan of Good Morning America and acclaimed designer Nate Berkus. Additionally, the Oriental Arts Education Center delivered a show-stopping performance featuring over 30 ballerinas with feathered accents that mesmerized the crowd.
Shawn Hamilton of Stokes Auction House then led a vibrant live auction. Revelers bid on an array of once-in-a-lifetime experiences, including a 2027 Wimbledon Package with the opportunity to play tennis with Andre Agassi and John McEnroe, an ultimate Super Bowl LXI experience in Los Angeles, and a getaway to Aspen, which emerged among the most popular items among bidders.
After viewing a moving video featuring the Elders, a family living with Type 1 Diabetes, guests then experienced the most successful and emotional part of the night – the Fund A Cure paddle raise. The Elder’s story inspired the crowd to give generously, resulting in a record-breaking $2.2 million.
The fun continued into the wee hours of the morning at an after-party in The Late-Night Lounge, proving that Houston, like New York, is a city that never sleeps. Revelers danced the night away to the tunes of DJ Pamela Tick, capping off a historic night of Houston fundraising, with the impact being felt for years to come.
THE NON-PROFIT: The 2026 Promise Ball: “A Night In Black and White,” chaired by Ali and Nick Bruskoff, raised an eye-popping $3.8 million for Breakthrough T1D. Proceeds from the event will go toward advancing the organization’s mission to pursue improved treatments and a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
