THE SCENE: Union Station at Daikin Park in Houston was the setting for one of the city’s most successful fundraisers to cultivate the next generation of social, community, and philanthropic leaders. Over 300 guests headed to the home of the Houston Astros for the 2025 Storybook Gala. The event benefitted the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation. It was hosted by the organization’s Young Professionals Group, which seeks to engage young professionals to create opportunities for members to read, lead, and serve the next generation.

THE VIBE: The black-tie attired crowd featured a vibrant, youthful array of ensembles. As one looked around the room, they could spot patrons in a rainbow of colors and classic neutrals, donning a variety of ballgowns and tuxedos. The result was a festive, happy environment for all who attended.

Kicking off the festivities was a cocktail hour. Here, guests had the opportunity to sip on their favorite spirits and pose for images commemorating the evening. Revelers also spent time viewing performers re-enacting the iconic balcony scene from Romeo & Juliet, which was the night’s theme. During the cocktail hour, attendees also perused an impressive lot of silent auction items, including a Houston Astros Double Date Experience and a trip to College Station that included a VIP Tour of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Center and a stay at the George Hotel.

Guests then took to their seats for the main program. Union Station was transformed into an elegant ballroom space with white, black, and neutral linens that beautifully complemented the white floral centerpieces. As guests dined on their delectable, Italian-inspired meals courtesy of Aramark, they were treated to remarks from the event and organization leaders thanking them for being a part of such a memorable evening.

Serving as emcee was Monica ‘Mo’ Lunsford from The Rod Ryan Show on 94.5 The Buzz, who both entertained the crowd and kept the action moving at a fun, brisk pace. During the program, the organization honored longtime supporters Stephanie and Frank Tsuru for their tireless support of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation.

A spirited live auction followed, where the paddles and fundraising increased as revelers bid on an array of luxury items and experiences, including a Houston Rockets Luxury Suite for 15 and a Home Dining Experience for 8 courtesy of Eric Aldis and King Steak, which emerged as the most popular. After the auction ended, the fun continued well into the night with an afterparty where guests danced the night away to the tunes of Drywater Band.

THE NON-PROFIT: The 2025 Storybook Gala, co-chaired by Grace Gosnell, Caitlin Rance, and Victoria Villarreal, raised over $200,000 for the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation. Proceeds raised from the event will go towards funding programs that fulfill the mission to improve lives through the power of literacy.
