The American Idol Star Alum’s Winning Vocals Are Positioning Her To Achieve Great Heights In The Music Industry

In Texas, music can often feel like a birthright. For Lufkin native Kendall Beard, it’s also been a lifeline, a calling, and, at times, a tug-of-war between personal devotion and professional ambition. As the lead singer and co-creator of the duo Love and Chaos, with AJ Vallejo, Beard has carved out a space that’s as distinctive as her voice: a space where country roots, soulful honesty, and rock edge coexist.
Her story isn’t just about building a band. It’s about resilience, reinvention, and the constant balancing act of artistry and motherhood. And in every lyric, every performance, and every decision, Beard’s voice, both literal and figurative, rings clear. The petite blonde’s immense talent and captivating voice quickly make you forget her striking looks, especially when paired with the undeniable star power of her stage presence. In fact, in the band’s new single, Rather Be Alone, that has never been more evident, according to her longtime pal and our music enthusiast, Lance Avery Morgan.
From Rodeos to American Idol
Beard grew up singing in rodeos and oprys across Texas, her childhood shaped by the state’s storied tradition of country music. The stage felt natural, and her voice carried a rawness that audiences connected with.
But it was her appearance on American Idol on Season 9 in 2010 that catapulted her into national consciousness. “It was surreal,” Beard recalls. “A whirlwind that gave me exposure, toughened me up, and made me realize how much I wanted to keep doing this.” After the show, she returned to Texas with her sights set on recording her first full-length solo album. That pursuit led her to a fateful collaboration with producer AJ Vallejo, a partnership that would soon change the trajectory of her career.

“The more honest I am, the more people connect. That’s the beauty of Texas music. The truest stories are the ones that resonate the most.”
The Birth of Love and Chaos
What began as a one-off duet in the studio turned into a songwriting partnership with uncanny chemistry. Beard and Vallejo quickly discovered that together, they could create something greater than either had planned.
“The songs just kept coming,” Beard says. “And the response, from fans, and even a major label, told us we might be onto something.”
Over the holidays, they carved out time to write without expectations. What emerged was the foundation of Love and Chaos. And in the chaos of creation, Beard found not only her next chapter but also a new musical identity.
“Music is fueled by love and passion, but it’s also unpredictable and messy. Those two forces may seem like opposites, but they belong together.”
If The Name Fits, Wear It
For Beard, the name Love and Chaos isn’t merely clever branding; it’s her lived experience.
“Music has always been fueled by passion and love,” she says. “But the life of a musician is unpredictable, messy, chaotic. Those two forces sound like opposites, but they belong together. In fact, it’s often the chaos that makes the music worth listening to.”
Blending Genres, Breaking Rules
Though Beard’s foundation is country, Love and Chaos isn’t easy to pin down. “My roots will always be in Texas country and soul,” she explains. “But AJ brings this rock and alternative influence. Sometimes a song leans more country, sometimes more rock, but the magic is in that middle ground.”
That refusal to conform is precisely what makes their music resonate. It’s a sound that feels familiar yet freshly rooted in tradition but restless enough to surprise.
Storytelling, The Texas Way
Songwriting, for Beard, is both therapy and truth-telling, she reveals. Her Texas upbringing instilled a belief in the power of authenticity, and it shows in her lyrics.
“The more honest I am, the more people connect,” she says. “That’s the beauty of Texas music. The truest stories are the ones that resonate the most. It doesn’t matter if they’re mine or inspired by someone else; it’s about capturing something real.”

“There’s nothing like a Texas crowd. Hearing them sing back your lyrics; it means everything.”
Milestones and Pinch-Me Moments
Beard’s career has been filled with moments that feel both surreal and hard-earned. Like scoring her first #1 on Texas radio, and winning “Best New Band” at the Texas Music Awards, where she stood on stage as audiences sang her lyrics back to her.
But one story stands out: “We got a last-minute call to open for REO Speedwagon and Styx on their Texas tour,” she says. “I was literally boarding a plane for vacation with my family when I found out. I sent them on without me and caught another flight to make the show. It was chaotic, yes, but unforgettable. And it reminded me why I love this life.”
The Balancing Act of Motherhood and Music
Perhaps the greatest challenge of Beard’s career isn’t in the studio or on stage; it’s at home. As the mother of two boys, she admits the juggle is real.
“Mom guilt is real,” she says. “I’ve missed games and special moments. But I also want my kids to see me chasing something I’m passionate about. Music brings me joy, and I believe that joy makes me a better mom. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it.”
Advice From the Frontlines
When asked what she’d tell young musicians breaking into the Texas scene, Beard doesn’t sugarcoat it. “You’ll hear a lot more no’s than yes’s,” she says. “But don’t let it break you. Don’t compare yourself to others. There’s room for everyone. The key is believing in your music, even when no one else does. That’s what keeps doors opening.”
A Record Worth the Wait
Their latest project, Bless Your Idiot Heart, may be the one Beard is proudest of. Initially scheduled for release in 2020, the pandemic delayed its debut. In hindsight, the delay was a blessing.
“Those years gave us time to rewrite, to make the songs stronger,” she explains. “We stopped worrying about fitting into radio or genre boxes and just let creativity flow. Each track became its own piece of art. My goal was to create something timeless, because truly great songs outlive trends.” The band’s no single, Rather Be Alone, will soon be a favorite to current fans, as well as reach new audiences.
Looking Ahead
The industry has undergone a dramatic shift since Beard first stepped onto the national stage. Today, artists can build careers from viral moments just as easily as from years of touring. Beard embraces both realities. “I come from that old-school, play-every-venue mentality,” she says. “But I also know the future is digital. The challenge is balancing the two; staying authentic on stage while learning how to connect online.”
Upcoming projects include new singles, live TV tapings, and high-profile shows, including a Labor Day weekend set with Bob Schneider at Buck’s Backyard. “We’re busier than ever,” Beard says with a smile. “And that’s exactly how I like it.”
“Sometimes a song leans more country, sometimes more rock. But the magic happens in the middle. That’s where we live.”
The Heartbeat? Her Fans
Through it all, Beard insists the actual engine behind her career has been the fans, especially those in Texas. “There’s nothing like a Texas crowd,” she says. “Hearing them sing back your lyrics, feeling that loyalty. It means everything. And in Texas, you can build a career without ever leaving the state. That kind of support is rare, and I’ll never take it for granted.”
For Kendall Beard, the path has never been simple. From rodeo stages to reality TV, from motherhood to music, her journey has been a tangle of love and chaos. But in that collision of forces, she’s found her truth, and a sound that’s as unpredictable, authentic, and unforgettable as she is. Now it’s time to get up close and personal…
Three qualities that got me where I am today are…
KENDALL BEARD: Persistence, the willingness to take chances, and living by the idea that success happens when preparation meets opportunity.
The easiest career decision I ever made is…
KENDALL BEARD: Leaving my low-level Sony PR job to get back to writing and recording. Turns out, I’m way better at making songs than making press releases. I belong in the studio, not behind a desk.
Due to my ongoing involvement with songwriting, I have found that…
KENDALL BEARD: I find that the best songs often write themselves.
What is influencing me right now is…
KENDALL BEARD: According to my Instagram…Amazon finds that I probably don’t need, vintage fashion, and pretty living spaces.
How I made my first dollar…
KENDALL BEARD: From a tip jar singing at a county fair.
The first music I bought was…
KENDALL BEARD: The first CDs I bought were Reba McEntire and Green Day; proof that my musical taste was chaotic from the start.

Whenever I hear a Yacht Rock song, I immediately…
KENDALL BEARD: Turn it up and sing at the top of my lungs. I love Yacht Rock.
Last thing I binge/marathon watched…
KENDALL BEARD: Lioness.

Book that left a lasting impression on me…
KENDALL BEARD: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
On that note, my favorite fiction character is…

KENDALL BEARD: A crawfish speed-eating contest.

If I weren’t doing what I do I would (be a…)…

A celebrity I would prank phone call, and what I would ask them is…
KENDALL BEARD: Amy Schumer, because I know she would play back.
My hidden talent that most people might not guess is…
KENDALL BEARD: Not to bring it back to crawfish, but yeah… people are always shocked at how many pounds I can put away, and how fast.
If I had a superpower, I’d want it to be…
KENDALL BEARD: Teleportation… I have major FOMO.
A simple way to get people to laugh is easy. Just…

KENDALL BEARD: The thing is…
My motto? Easy. It is…
KENDALL BEARD: Life is all about balance.
Favorite scent these days is (because)…
KENDALL BEARD: Definitely Santal. It’s the perfect mix of cozy and chic; like a hug, but make it as if it was fashion.
My style icon is…
KENDALL BEARD: My mom. Fashion is in her blood, and she can always put together an outfit that wows. Anytime I need help, she’s my go-to.
My personal style signifier is…
KENDALL BEARD: For the stage: a little boho rock’n roll. Give me all the fringe, short skirts, and knee-high boots, baby.

KENDALL BEARD: Bob Mackie.
The last meal that truly impressed me was…
KENDALL BEARD: Aris in Austin. I tried it for the first time, and everything was really amazing!
