McLaren, The Americas President, Nicolas Brown, and the Mayor of Coppell, Wes Mays, hosted a grand opening celebration with over 50 local McLaren owners and members of the media. I drove up to be one of the first to tour the new headquarters which is located just outside of Dallas in Coppell, Texas.
McLaren began planning the move from New York City to Texas in 2011 and the custom designed 31,000 square foot facility in a high-tech industrial park will be used to maintain, service, and store company-owned vehicles on-site and be the home of sales and technical training for North America.
The Dallas area was chosen thanks to its central location, putting the new headquarters within a three-hour flight of most McLaren retailer locations, allowing for technical and customer service requests to be even more swiftly fulfilled.
“With the massive growth of McLaren in the Americas over the past decade, we have continuously been trying to keep pace with the needs we have as an organization to ensure that we deliver the ultimate service to both customers and retailers. This new Texas facility means we now have both the space and the location to deliver even faster and more effective support for the retail network throughout the Americas, as well as be cost-effective in the maintenance of our own vehicles and provision of training courses tour retailers.” – Nicolas Brown, President, McLaren, The Americas
From the outside, the facility looks like any other warehouse off Beltline Road, but inside the design is pure McLaren, a high-tech meeting room that flows into a state-of-the-art garage and maintenance facility. A large open, office area has the feel of an automotive design studio and a supercar showroom and presentation area split into two areas, that can be combined or used separately, and feature a 12-foot by 8-foot video screen, custom designed in Italy, that is motorized to rise and reveal vehicles in a dramatically lit alcove behind it.
An MSO Brand Center where McLaren customers can order their bespoke supercar in consultation with designers and engineers in the brand’s Woking, UK headquarters to create unique specifications and finishes.
The workshop area currently has four vehicle lifts, with four more to be installed, fast charge stations, a tire mounting/balancing station, training bays, classrooms, and an infinity cove for vehicle photography.
