A fabulous night for Austin’s newest million-dollar nonprofit gala

THE SCENE: The JW Marriott in Austin was the recent setting for the Capital City’s newest million-dollar annual fundraiser. Over 450 of the city’s top philanthropists, sociables, and community leaders for the Texas Advocacy Project’s 17th Annual Black & White Ball. The night featured a dazzling mix of fun and fundraising that included touching tributes, emotional testimonials, and a record fundraising haul.
THE VIBE: The black-tie crowd donned their best black and white attire, which allowed for an elegant, sophisticated mix of cocktail dresses and tuxedos that was as smooth as the ambiance music that played in the background as guests ascended the escalator into the ballroom foyer for cocktail hour. After walking the red carpet to pose for photos that perfectly complimented the black and white ensembles, revelers cozied up to grab their favorite cocktail. During the cocktail hour patrons mingled with friends while perusing an impressive array of silent auction items and a preview of live auction items.
The festivities then began in the ballroom for the main program. As partygoers dined on their delicious multi-course meals, they were treated to words from organization leaders and sponsors. Next came the presentation of the Courage Award to Jocelyn Lee for her tireless work in support of the organization. Following the award presentation was a spirited live auction by Heath Hale of Cowboy Auctioneer where guests bid on a series of impressive travel packages including exotic locations including Croatia, New York City, Puerto Vallarta, and Tuscany. The evening was capped off with an after-party where the fun lasted well into the night while dancing to the tunes of DJ Nixx.
THE NON-PROFIT: The event, chaired by Catherine Brophy, raised a record-breaking $1.125 million for the Texas Advocacy Project. Statistics show that over 40% of women and 35% of men will experience domestic abuse in their lifetimes. Funds raised from the Black & White Ball will provide free legal and social services to empower survivors and help break the cycle of abuse
