THE SCENE: The Bryan Museum in Galveston was the setting for the city’s most anticipated fundraising event. A packed crowd featuring over 400 of the area’s most notable community leaders, sociables, and philanthropists turned out for the 2026 Bryan Museum gala. The “Texas Our Promised Land” themed event honored Jewish pioneers of Texas, combining history and glamor, resulting in a highly successful event for the organization.

THE VIBE: The black-tie-optional crowd wore an eclectic array of elevated attire. In the crowd, one could easily spot traditional formal tuxedos and ballgowns that seamlessly blended in with suits, cocktail dresses, Texas ties, plenty of fringe, and more than a few cowboy hats. The result was a festive, warm environment where everyone felt welcome.

Guests realized they were in for a special evening the moment they walked onto The Bryan Museum grounds for cocktail hour. Many looked in awe at the beautiful white-rose backdrop, which patrons used as an opportunity to take images to commemorate the evening. Others admired the stunning 1950s-inspired Sakowitz storefront window showcasing garments and footwear originally designed by the iconic Galveston-founded department store, and recreated by The Bryan Museum. Additionally, patrons had a pop-up preview of the “Port of Promise: Jewish Pioneers of Texas” exhibit coming to The Bryan Museum in November 2026.

During cocktail hour, guests grabbed their favorite spirits and mingled with the crowd. In addition, they also perused silent auction items and took a sneak peek at live auction items that would be up for bid later in the evening.

The patrons then gathered in the elegantly designed tent on the Bryan Museum grounds for dinner and the main program. While revelers enjoyed their delectable, kosher-inspired menu courtesy of Culinaire, they were treated to words from event and organization leaders thanking them for taking part in such a special evening. During the program, Rabbi Henry Cohen was honored for his legacy and indomitable Texas spirit.

Next, Glenn Beckendorff took to the stage for a spirited live auction. The paddles and the fundraising increased as the crowd bid on an array of luxury items and experiences, with a mountainside home in Breckenridge, a trip to Croatia, and a stay at the iconic Gage Hotel emerging as the most popular. Capping off the night was music courtesy of the Richard Brown Orchestra.

THE NON-PROFIT: The 2026 Bryan Museum Gala, chaired by Lily and Charles Foster, B.J. and Buddy Herz, and Joy and Benjamin Warren, with Rabbi Peter Kessler serving as honorary chair, raised over $800,000 for The Bryan Museum. Proceeds from the event will support the museum’s education, exhibition, and outreach programs in Galveston and beyond.
