THE SCENE: The Wortham Theater Center in Houston was the setting for a magical night of fun and fundraising that honored one of Texas’ most beloved event tastemakers. Over 500 of the city’s most notable music patrons, culture lovers, sociables, and philanthropists attended the 2026 Houston Ballet Ball. The Giselle-themedevent featured a multi-act night of festivities that lasted well into the night.

THE VIBE: The black-tie crowd fully embraced the enchanted forest vibes from the event invitation. Many patrons donned their favorite formal looks in blue, black, and green hues, interpreting a nighttime forest landscape in their own way.
As patrons walked up the steps to the atrium level of the Wortham, they knew magic was in the air. After ascending the landing of the Grand Foyer level, members of the Houston Ballet staff greeted guests, who headed to one of two Giselle-inspired step-and-repeat forest backdrops, which served two important purposes: preventing a line from forming and providing attendees with the opportunity to commemorate the evening by posing for images with costumed ballet dancers.

Immediately after posing for photos, guests were offered champagne as they gathered in the event space, magically transformed by legendary event producer and 2026 Houston Ballet Ball honoree Richard Flowers. He continued the Giselle theme in the soaring, 75-foot-high Grand Foyer with floor-to-ceiling drapes, suspended trees along the perimeter, forest-inspired table centerpieces, and most of all, a stunning, angelic ring of elegant greenery hoisted above the dance floor.
Once guests had the opportunity to fully take in the space, they engaged in a lively cocktail hour where, after finishing their champagne, they cozied up to the bar to get their favorite spirit of choice and mingle about the crowd, with many taking the opportunity to pose for images on the dancefloor against the backdrop of the stunning tables and stage serving as the perfect backdrop.

Additionally, guests headed over to the highly curated silent auction with an array of luxury items, experiences, and travel packages. The most popular items of the auction included a one-week stay at the Aspen Ritz-Carlton Club, a sapphire diamond set from Deutsch Fine Jewelry, and a Champagne & Caviar in-home masterclass experience.
Partygoers then took their seats to enjoy a delectable, multi-course meal with synchronized table service, courtesy of City Kitchen Catering. The dinner allowed guests to visit with their tablemates, with the conversation flowing as freely as the wine.

The crowd then turned its attention to the stage for the program. After brief words from Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch AM, the organization honored Houston First for its tireless support of Houston Ballet over the years. Next, Richard Flowers was honored for creating majestic Houston Ballet Ball experiences for thousands of patrons over the past 41 years, and brought the crowd to their feet for a standing ovation and their gratitude for creating so many memorable experiences for them over the years. Looking back, guests now have abundant gratitude that Flowers was able to see the audience’s appreciation before his untimely passing in April, 2026.
Next, Houston Ballet Corps de Ballet and the Houston Ballet Apprentices dazzled the crowd by dancing in exquisitely choreographed numbers to classic ABBA music. This served as the perfect warm-up for the audience, who then took to the dance floor, where patrons danced the night away well into the night to the tunes of Stratosphere, capping off a beautiful night that will be remembered fondly by guests for years to come.

THE NON-PROFIT: The 2026 Houston Ballet Ball, chaired by Christine and David M. Underwood Jr., raised over $1.6 million for the Houston Ballet. Proceeds raised from the event will go towards program and educational initiatives to further the organization’s mission to inspire a lasting love and passion for dance in Houston and beyond.
