THE SCENE: The JW Marriott Hotel in downtown Austin was the venue for an evening of fun fit for royalty. Several hundred of the city’s most prominent art patrons, music lovers, sociables, and philanthropists were on hand for one of the Capital City’s most anticipated fall events, Fête. Benefiting Ballet Austin, the night doubled as a celebration of iconic choreographer Stephen Mills’ 25th season with the organization.

THE VIBE: This year’s theme, La Vie De La Fête, served as a nod to the infamous, legendary 18th-century queen, Marie Antoinette. It also served as a nod and preview for the upcoming Ballet Austin performance of Marie Antoinette: Vampire Queen of Versailles, which will run from March 26-28, 2026.

Revelers wholeheartedly embraced the French-inspired theme, and it showed in their attire. In the black-tie-optional crowd, one could spot cocktail dresses, ballgowns, suits, and tuxedos in a range of bold colors, metallics, and prints. The result was a warm, welcoming environment for all who attended, with a reunion feel that reflected the many people who have supported Ballet Austin and Stephen Mills’ creative genius over the past quarter century.

The festivities kicked off in regal style with an elegant cocktail hour in the JW Marriott Ballroom Foyer. Here, guests had the opportunity to pose for photos to commemorate the evening in several areas, including with live-action performers dressed in 18th-century attire. Additionally, others posed for keepsake images in front of a stunning array of purple florals, adding an extra layer of regal elegance.

The festivities then headed to the JW Marriott Ballroom for the main program. Event producer Mayram Fernandez transformed the space into an elegant setting that transported guests to the 18th century, complete with candle-laden centerpieces that perfectly complemented the mix of black and metallic linens.

Emcee Cassandra King served up her rendition of Marie Antoinette as emcee and entertained the audience while keeping the festivities flowing at a fun, brisk pace. As revelers took their seats to enjoy a multi-course meal, they were treated to remarks from event and organization leaders thanking them for being part of such a memorable evening. This included words from Stephen Mills himself, who thanked the crowd for their support of his productions over the past quarter-century.

Next, auctioneer TiWanna Kenney of Astounding Auctions helmed a spirited live auction. The paddles went up for an array of luxury items and experiences, including a King Air 350 package and trips to Little Dix Bay and Porto, Portugal, which emerged as the most popular among patrons. A lively paddles-up followed, which further increased the fundraising totals.

The fun continued as the doors between the two ballrooms opened to reveal a lively after-party already in progress. Here, guests had the opportunity to dance the night away, pose for interactive Glambot photos, and cap off a fabulous night celebrating one of Austin’s most beloved artists.

THE NON-PROFIT: La Vie De La Fête raised nearly $500,000 for Ballet Austin. Proceeds from the event will support the organization’s education and program initiatives to welcome audiences near and far to participate in its classically innovative vision for the democratization of dance.
