Texans like to take the long way around. There’s something about unhurried drives through the pines of East Texas, two-lane detours off Highway 290, and the slow crawl into Round Top with antique trucks parked on the grass and the smell of barbecue in the air. That’s exactly the kind of weekend the 2025 Lexus LX 600 was built for, according to our Jennifer Satterfield, who loves the open road.

Lexus’s flagship SUV has always been a favorite among those who demand durability with their luxury. With this newest generation, the 2025 Lexus LX 600 strikes a balance between refinement and ruggedness, retaining the soul that made it a favorite among ranchers, travelers, and off-the-grid adventurers alike.

LX 600 Luxury Refined

Our test vehicle came loaded with premium leather, real wood trim, and all the technology Lexus could pack into a full-size SUV. The twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 churns out 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, enough to confidently pass semi-trucks on I-10 or power up gravel trails with ease. Paired with a 10-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel drive, the LX never feels overworked, just assured.

On the road from Bryan-College Station to Round Top, the LX 600 proved its worth quickly. The ride is velvet smooth, soaking up highway expansion joints and backroad imperfections alike. You can set the adaptive cruise, settle into the massaging seats, and feel the cabin grow quieter with each passing mile. It’s not just about getting from point A to point B, LX 600 makes the journey feel like part of the reward.

Unlike some of its competitors that chase aggressive styling or tech overload, the 2025 Lexus LX 600 takes a different route. It’s confident without being brash, elegant without being flashy. The proportions are bold, sure, but the details, the spindle grille, the sculpted lighting, the deep body lines—are all about restraint and clarity.

Inside The LX 600

Inside, the Lexus LX 600 is equal parts luxury retreat and command center. The dual-screen layout separates navigation and climate control, while physical knobs remain for those of us who still prefer tactile feedback over endless swiping. The Mark Levinson audio system makes even AM radio sound crisp, and the rear seat comfort rivals first-class airline pods.

The only knock? Fuel economy, which hovers in the 17 mpg range, depending on how much you use that turbo torque. But let’s be honest, this isn’t a Prius, and anyone shopping in this category likely knows that comfort and capability have their cost.

Arriving in Round Top just in time to shop, the LX looked right at home. Parked between restored Fords and vintage Land Cruisers at a pop-up gallery event, it drew more than a few second glances. Maybe it was the refined silhouette. Maybe it was the quiet confidence it exuded. More than one person asked, “Is that the new LX?”

Yes, it is. And it’s exactly what a modern Texas road trip vehicle should be.
