THE SCENE: The River Oaks Country Club was the setting for a night of fun and fundraising for a very worthy cause. A sold-out crowd featuring over 450 of Houston’s most notable community leaders, medical visionaries, sociables, and philanthropists turned out for the 13th annual Stand Up for Brain Cancer gala. Benefiting The Broach Foundation, the night featured touching tributes and show-stopping performances that those fortunate to be a part of will not soon forget.

THE VIBE: The cocktail-attire crowd featured a fun mix of Spring attire, creating a festive, welcoming environment for all who attended. In the crowd, one could spot more traditional cocktail fare with bright colors, sequins, bold prints, and bold-colored suits.

The night began with a cocktail reception in the River Oaks Country Club Ballroom Foyer. As guests sipped on their favorite spirits, they mingled in anticipation of a fun, entertaining night. Select VIP’s had the opportunity to meet the night’s featured guest, Emmy-nominated comedian Mike Birbiglia, who was brought back for an encore performance after dazzling the crowd at the 10th anniversary Stand Up for Brain Cancer Gala in 2022.

The action then moved to the River Oaks Country Club Main Ballroom for dinner and the evening’s program. As guests dined on their delectable, multicourse meals, they were treated to words from organization and event leaders thanking them for being a part of a special evening honoring James Broach’s legacy. The night was capped off with a set by the world-renowned Mike Birbiglia, who entertained the crowd in a side-splitting set that had the crowd laughing uproariously.

THE NON-PROFIT: The 13th annual Stand Up for Brain Cancer Gala raised funds for The Broach Foundation. Founded in honor of James Broach, who passed away in 2011 from Grade II Astrocytoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, the event has raised over $6.5 million over the past 13 years to support cutting-edge research aimed at finding a cure and improving outcomes for those experiencing brain cancer.
