THE SCENE: The Post Oak Hotel in Houston was the setting for one of Space City’s most anticipated and successful fundraising events supporting the performing arts. Nearly 500 of the area’s most notable theater patrons, dancers, sociables, and philanthropists turned out for Alley Ball 2025. Benefiting the Alley Theatre, the night boasted a vibrant “A Buenos Aires Affair” theme that delivered fun and a seven-figure night for the organization.

THE VIBE: The black-tie crowd donned an array of dazzling ensembles that fit the drama and pageantry of its illustrious theme. In the crowd, one could spot dinner jackets in various colors and gowns featuring bold colors, prints, and metallics. This provided a festive, welcoming environment for all who attended.

The night began in The Post Oak Hotel Ballroom Foyer for cocktail hour. After guests grabbed their favorite spirit, they mingled with the crowd, brimming with anticipation of the fun that lay ahead.
The Post Oak Ballroom doors opened, and guests filed in. They were dazzled by the stunning décor courtesy of The Events Company, which transformed the ballroom into the colorful streets of Buenos Aires. One could spot Argentine-inspired centerpieces of differing shapes and sizes in the ballroom. These were perfectly complemented by beautiful florals courtesy of Walker Chancey. To add drama, guests were treated to tango dancers from the Marcone Dance Studio.

After guests took to their seats, the main program began. As revelers dined on a delectable, multi-course meal, they were treated to words from event leaders. Highlights of the program included honoring Jane and Dean Gladden for their tireless support of the organization and Dean’s retirement as Alley Theatre’s managing director.

Next came a spirited live auction full of over-the-top theatre and other luxury experiences. The bidding went higher and higher for coveted items, including a walk-on performance of the Alley Theater’s annual production of A Christmas Story, a 4th of July long weekend at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, and a Seared at Home package with James Beard-award winning chef Justin Yu, emerging as the most popular.

The night was capped off with an after party. The crowd filed onto the dance floor after it was christened by professional Tango Dancers who then danced to the tunes of The Big Beyond.

THE NON-PROFIT: Alley Ball 2025: A Buenos Aires Affair, chaired by Michele and Dheeraj Verma, raised more than $1.3 million for the Alley Theatre. Proceeds from the event will fund the organization’s artistic, educational, and community engagement initiatives, as it has done for the Houston community since its founding 78 years ago.
