THE SCENE: The beautiful grounds of The Menil Collection was the setting for one of Space City’s most fun and anticipated al fresco events of the fall season. Over 300 of Houston’s most notable art patrons, nature lovers, sociables, and philanthropists turned out for The Menil Collection’s fourth annual “Party in the Park.” The event was presented by Central Houston Cadillac, Bellows Construction, and Vinson & Elkins LLP.

THE VIBE: The “Garden Chic” crowd donned a mix of open-collared suits and long, flowing dresses of all colors and prints, creating a diverse tapestry that created a warm, welcoming environment for all who attended. As patrons arrived, many posed for images in front of Mark di Suvero’s stunning steel sculpture, Bygones, to commemorate the evening before proceeding to a cocktail party.

Partygoers were wowed by the elegant décor by Bergner & Johnson that featured strings of beautifully placed twinkling lights underneath the beautiful canopy of live oak trees, ornate crystal chandeliers, and tables with colorful floral arrangements on tables scattered throughout the park. During cocktail hour, guests mingled and sipped on their favorite spirits. The night continued as guests took advantage of passed bites and attendant-served buffet stations by City Kitchen that featured many delectable dishes. As guests grabbed their favorite bites, they proceeded to tables and lounge seating areas where partygoers could gather in a fun, relaxed setting.

Throughout the evening, revelers experienced an array of dazzling ambiance music that perfectly complemented the festive mood of the crowd. During cocktails and dinner, guests were treated to a smooth jazz sextet. Later on in the evening, partygoers were treated to tunes by iconic Houston band Doc Loc and the Swangers that brought the crowd to their feet and capped off an evening that perfectly blended art, nature, and fun.

THE NON-PROFIT: “Party in the Park” that was co-chaired by Lucie and Daniel Arnoldy, Winnie Schuerer and Kevin Bonebrake, Melissa and Oliver Tuckerman, and Anat and Jay Zeidman, raised over $300,000 for The Menil Collection. Proceeds raised from the event will go towards the enhancement, care, and maintenance of the organization’s world-class art building and green spaces.
