When you think of Hollywood glamour, timeless beauty, and a touch of rock ‘n’ roll, the inimitable Alana Hamilton Stewart is a name that springs to mind. But behind the glitz and her storied career lies a heart devoted to making a difference. Enter The Farrah Fawcett Foundation, a passion project born from Alana’s deep friendship with the iconic actress Farrah Fawcett and her fierce determination to continue Farrah’s fight against cancer. The recent event benefiting the organization in Dallas was a tremendous success partly because Alana is known for her charm, wit, and philanthropy.

Alana has transformed the spotlight from the red carpet to the cause that is changing lives, as our Lance Avery Morgan learns, in this up-close and personal look at the Hollywood personality who is using her influence for a far greater purpose—helping fight cancer with style, grace, and, of course, a little Hollywood flair.

The best career advice I’ve received is…

Alana Stewart Hamilton: When I was asked to become President/CEO of The Farrah Fawcett Foundation after Farrah passed away, I  hesitated because I felt I had no idea how to run a non-profit.

I wanted to do the right thing for Farrah, so I asked my friend, producer Sherry Lansing’s advice. She said, “You can absolutely do this. You’re smart and have good instincts and you’ll figure it out.”

I said yes, and I’ve never regretted it. The first thing I did was to learn every aspect of running a foundation, especially all the rules and regulations.  I feel good about all we’ve been able to accomplish in the last 14 years and I think my friend would be proud.

Three qualities that got me where I am today are…

Alana Stewart Hamilton: Persistence, faith and determination.

Easiest career decision I ever made is…

Alana Stewart Hamilton: Moving to New York City to model.

My co-founders had the same vision as me, to…

Alana Stewart Hamilton: Farrah started the foundation after she was diagnosed with cancer. The board members and I wanted to carry out Farrah’s wishes which is our mission statement: To fund cutting-edge research in under-researched cancers; to help people battling cancer today; and to promote awareness and prevention.

What is inspiring me right now about the organization is…

Alana Stewart Hamilton: Our ability to partner with important organizations like Stand Up 2 Cancer and Gateway, and together find treatments and a cure for HPV-related cancers. HPV is a virus responsible for 5% of the world’s cancers, including anal cancer, cervical cancer, and many head and neck cancers.

Farrah Fawcett, in our long friendship, could always make me…

How I made my first dollar…

Alana Stewart Hamilton: Helping an elderly neighbor when I was twelve. Then through babysitting and working behind the candy counter at Woolworth’s at fourteen.
