THE SCENE: Are you looking to view things in a new illusion? We can’t think of any place better to do this than the new Museum of Illusions Houston. Located within The Galleria Mall that borders the River Oaks and Memorial neighborhoods, this is the perfect place for Houstonians to look at things in a new way…and for any Texan to visit the next time they are in Houston for a concert, wedding, family reunion, or sporting event.
THE SPACE: The museum boasts over 6,000 square feet of illusionary magic. Inside there are over 60 exhibits and multi-fascinated exhibits to experience. Each one provides a more magical photo opportunity than the one preceding it. Among the most popular are the Reserved Room, which provides visitors with a 180-degree perspective change, the Tilted Room, in which the surface is not what it initially seems and the Vortex Tunnel, which gives patrons a different perception of reality in a new and exciting way.
THE COMMUNITY: The museum did one of our favorite things by dialing in local artists to give the space an unapologetically Houston stamp of approval. Collaborating with Houston-based artist Donkee Boy, (Alex Roman Jr.), the museum features two pieces of art that feature the perfect mix of color, imagination, and pop culture. One of the pieces is titled Wonder Frieda in honor of the iconic 20th-century artist Frida Kahlo which will be on display inside the museum’s Following Eyes exhibit.
The space, is the third of its kind in Texas following the successful openings of Museum of Illusions Dallas on Ross Avenue in Downtown Dallas and the Museum of Illusions Austin at The Domain, which means you can experience illusions from multiple points of view as your travels take you around Texas.
