THE SCENE: A recent afternoon at The Galleria in Houston brought out scores of fashionable Houstonians of all ages for what has become an annual back-to-school rite of passage. Those who turned out for the 11th annual “Back to School” fashion show hosted by MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital and The Galleria were treated to an afternoon of fun that got everyone back into the school spirit.
THE VIBE: The festive nature of the event had something fun for children of all ages. Before and after the fashion show, people could be seen enjoying any one of several experiences that served as short and long-term keepsakes of the day. One spotted people having their faces painted, others decided to receive a custom-made balloon animal, and some decided to enjoy some time in the coloring station to allow their personal creativity to flourish.
Headlining the main event was KHOU anchor Brandi Smith, who effortlessly led the proceedings that kept the crowd entertained throughout. After Dr. Priti Tewari welcomed the crowd, the fashion show commenced. Held on a gorgeous runaway that featured the MD Anderson logo, the show included two dozen child models ages 5-16 who sported looks from various retailers inside The Galleria. At the end of the fashion show, each model was awarded a generous gift card from The Galleria for a job well done.
THE NON-PROFIT: Proceeds raised from the event the MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital, which is a part of MD Anderson Cancer Center whose mission is to end cancer for children.
