Carolyn Farb is a Texas legend, pure and simple. Patroness of the arts and humanities, her fame for fundraising paralleled Houston’s meteoric climb on the national scene and hasn’t stopped yet. Here, in an exclusive interview, she muses on her favorite things with our social arbiter and dear friend Lance Avery Morgan.
An unforgettable place I’ve traveled is…Venice. It is magical, mysterious, fragile and such a romantic place, with the sounds of the classical voice of the castrato singing in the night.
The music I loved to downloaded recently is…Someone Like You by Adele, Yesterday by The Beatles, Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton and Landslide by Fleetwood Mac.
An artist whose work I would collect is…Amselm Keifer, and there are many others. Art is my passion.
My style icon is…the inimitable Stevie Nicks because she is true to her spirit and her unique persona. She inspires my own expression of art: designing jewelry, clothes of assemblage and wearing hats with goggles atop, petticoats and laced corsets.
A fun item I added to my wardrobe is…a gold python Tom Ford envelope bag with a tassel.
The best gift I have received is…challenging to have choose one. I am blessed. For sure a magnificent Ingrid Dee Magidson painting and my favorite pair of sexy, strappy low-heeled perfect blue shoes by Valentino.
If I had to limit my shopping to one neighborhood in one city…I can’t do that; either Robertson Boulevard or Madison Avenue.
My favorite room is…my Elizabeth Taylor-style bedroom that I share with my two rambunctious Lucas Terriers – Lucas and his son, Maximillian.
An indulgence I would never forego is… the classic sumptuous warm five-nut brownie at Hillstone – it might be worth skipping directly to the finale.
My favorite go-to beauty essentials are…Rouge Dior lipstick and Le Prairie’s Skin Caviar Luxe Lift Eye Cream.
My favorite fragrance is…I have many, but I especially love Le Baiser Du Dragon by Cartier.
If I didn’t live in this city I’d live in… it is difficult to imagine not being in Houston and Texas, as that is where my heart and soul reside.
My favorite street in the world is…the beautiful Place de la Concorde in Paris from its many views.
If I weren’t doing what I do, I would be a…I had a speaking role as Ida in Die Fledermaus, which was quite a challenge, with Opera in the Heights. Another maestro Svengali, who believes in my different types of artistic expressions, could inspire me and be the stage mother I never had.
The site that inspires me is…The Beloved Immortal memorial site for my son, Jake.
On my tombstone it will say…She did it her way with great care for others and the purposeful life, never wanting it to end.
